Over N700 Million needed to review Akwa Ibom State Laws - the killerpunch news

The disclosure was made, Monday by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, when he appeared before the House of Assembly committee on Appropriation and Finance to defend the 2017 budget of the ministry. 

It has been revealed that the revision and production of laws of Akwa Ibom state will gulp over N700 Million.

The disclosure was made, Monday by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, when he appeared before the House of Assembly committee on Appropriation and Finance to defend the 2017 budget of the ministry.

Recall that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly had last year passed a resolution directing the state government through the Ministry of Justice to review of laws of Akwa Ibom state.

Reacting the state counsel, Barr. Nwoko told the lawmakers that it would require more than N700 Million to review the laws of the state.

Reviewing the 2016 performance of the ministry’s budget, the Attorney General disclosed that the total budget outlay for 2016 was N1.590 Billion, out of which the ministry was able to draw N144Million, which represents to 9.06 percent of the entire budget outlay.

He hoped the outlook for 2017 would be better to enable the ministry of Justice perform effectively.

While the budget outlay of the ministry stood at N1.5Billion in 2016, the estimate for 2017 stands at N1.022Billion ,indicating a drop this year owing to the current economic situation.

Responding, Chairman of the House Committee, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, while sympathizing with the commissioner on the challenges faced by his ministry, said the committee will consider the issues raised by him.
