Royal Fathers extol Turkish investors for bringing Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Company to Akwa Ibom State * Laud Governor Udom for creating enabling environment
Royal Fathers in Akwa Ibom State have poured encomium on Turkish investors, owners of Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Company JSM, for bringing the investment and other investments to the State.
The Royal Fathers, HRM Obong E.C.D. Abia, Paramount Ruler of Eket and his counterpart, HRM, Edidem Raymond Timothy Inyang, Paramount Ruler of Onna Local Government Area, were on a courtesy visit to Jubilee Syringe factory in Awa, Onna LGA at the weekend.
Speaking during the visit, HRM, Obong Abia said he was delighted that syringe which is one of the major health consumables is produced in Akwa Ibom State. He stated further that the company has not only assumed the status of the biggest and leading producer of syringes in Africa, but has also place Akwa Ibom State and its people in the map of the world. He asserted that the state under Governor Udom Emmanuel, was fast becoming the hub of industries in Africa.
He said: “Let me first and foremost thank Governor Udom Emmanuel for providing the enabling environment for businesses to thrive in Akwa Ibom State. The Governor provided the investors with land and other resources to encourage their investment. This is indeed what should be described as Uncommon achievements. He has redefined governance not only in the state but also in Nigeria.
“Jubilee Syringe is one investment that we are all very proud of. It is not just an investment, but one that will add value to the entire African continent.
“Today our youth are trained professionals in syringe production. The Turkish investors are not only training our youth, they are transferring technology to us. Nigerians, especially those from Akwa Ibom State are the ones manning the equipment. This is thrilling to know, and this is what effective leadership entails.
“We want to encourage the management not to compromise their standard no matter the situation and pressure. We should be able to compete with the very best in the world in terms of quality, and this is what Jubilee Syringe has provided; the best quality.
“On our part as traditional institution, we will support the state government in providing a conducive and friendly environment for companies to operate successfully”.
Abia, advised the employees especially, indigenes of the state to be hardworking, committed and be of good conduct, and also uphold the standards set by the management. He advised against unnecessary demands from the people of the community. He called on the people to shun any form of riot and protests against the management, as the future of Jubilee Syringe belongs to the people of the state.
On his part, HRM, Edidem Raymond Timothy Inyang, observed that, Jubilee Syringe is neither a technical partner with the government nor is the company owned by the state government. He said the investment is a 100% private investment and initiative. He explained that the contribution of the state government was the provisions of land, good economic policies and security which encouraged the investors to come in with their investment.
“Jubilee Syringe will not go with government at the end of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration because the syringe manufacturers are the investors and owners of the factory. They will not pack-up when there are no raw materials because they will source for their raw materials. Therefore, this community should not rise against them in riot nor protest as it is not a community owned factory but a private business”.
The respected traditional father noted that if previous administration had attracted investors into the state like Governor Udom is doing, Akwa Ibom State would have measured up with other developed cities of the world.
He thanked the investors for also bringing Kings Flour mill to the community, an investment he said has already impacted in the lives of the people positively.
Receiving the Paramount Rulers to the factory was the Chairman and Chief Executive, Mr. Emir Kayalioglu and the Managing Director of Jubilee Syringe, Mr Zubeyir Gulabi. The MD expressed happiness over the Royal Fathers visit to the factory and promise to continue in the cordial relationship already enjoyed by the management and staff of Jubilee Syringe, and the people of the community.
Mr Gulabi said Jubilee Syringe was completed in September, 2017, while full operation started in October same year. He said the Syringe company in Akwa Ibom State is the largest in Africa, and the first in Nigeria to be successful after about eight other syringe factories in different parts of the country failed due to lack of policies and incentives for manufacturers.
On achievements recorded, Gulabi, who is the Chairman, Syringe and Needle Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, said, Jubilee Syringe is able to lead in the industry because of the good economic policies of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.
“The good economic policies of Governor Udom’s administration and the peace enjoyed in the state, are some of the reasons we as a company are doing well and recording the huge success you see here today. We hope it continues like this for a long time.
“We started production immediately after the factory was commissioned in 2017 by the Vice President. As of today, we are producing 2ml, 5ml and 10ml syringes. We started with about 130 staff, but that has since increased to approximately 200 currently.
“The factory operates 24hours daily through three shifts. We have provided staff quarters for our staff, while the marketing team are one month behind supply due to the high demands.
“We can comfortably say that local manufacturers are part of the decision making bodies in the syringe sub sector now, and this is good for our business.
“Our strong presence in the sub sector and our impact in the industry as a whole in the country, has given hope to this once dying sub sector of the Nigeria’s economy. The government of Nigeria has now put forward good policies which is encouraging local manufacturers”.
On challenges faced, Gulabi, the elected Council Member of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria MAN, decried the lack of power as a major setback, stating that the Governor had promise a dedicated power line from Ikot Abasi to the factory when the plant is fully commissioned later this year.
While conducting the Royal Fathers on a tour of the facility, the Managing Director promised that Jubilee Syringe will not only be known for production of syringes, but will diversify into the production of other medical consumables, which are in high demands across hospitals in the country.
Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Company which is unarguably the largest and leading Syringe company in Africa, with production capacity of 400 million syringes yearly, now has its products in virtually all the hospitals and Pharmacies in Nigeria.
