It is now clear that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom State is getting ready to exploring all available means to win the fast approaching 2019 polls as it has voted billions of naira into the ‘very crucial project’ of luring chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC into the party.
In what many would describe as the ‘fishing of men’, the elders of the PDP in the State, led by the party chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo; the speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke; Member, Onna State constituency, Hon. Nse Essien; the Chief Whip of the AKHA and Member, Ini State constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Ekponyong and others stormed the Nkana Country home of the APC Political Leader in Etinan, Otuekong Sunny Jackson, asking him to cross back to the PDP.
Sources told this reporter that Paul Ekpo and other PDP leaders who spoke at the residence of Sunny Jackson pleaded the APC chieftain to decamp to their party and take a cash amount of #500 million.
Accordingly, Ekpo and his accomplices had postrated before the former PDP chief, asking him to call the high and mighty in the party together so as to plan towards making their return, an official event.
Ekpo had also allegedly promised the APC stalwarts of juicy contracts and appointments from the Akwa Ibom State Government, which would make them forget their days of marginalization and exclusion in the party.
The PDP Chairman and their members also assured them that the Udom Emmanuel led PDP government in the State was ready to run an inclusive administration where everyone’s opinion would count in the day to day running of government.
The meeting was said to have ended on a shameful note as the revered APC chieftain had dismissed their claims without reservations.
Jackson was said to have rejected the offer, saying the days of PDP, their loots and days of impunity were over.
Our reporter gathered that Jackson had promised them just one thing, the fact that he was willing to return to the party on one condition.
This promise, according to sources, was that the APC leader was not hungry for looted funds and that he was not ready to join the ban wagon but that he would only return to PDP only after delivering the whole state to the APC led federal government, under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari and also install an APC governor at the Hilltop Mansion in 2019.
But our reporter also gleaned that PDP was not willing to bear the shame in silence but that they were determined to use tax payers money to buy “some perceived unfaithful APC members” so as to gather enough strength to contend with the vibrant APC population across the state.
