A former Vice Chairman of Eket Local Government Area and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Mr Ekanem Willie has declared intention to contest for the seat of Eket State Constituency in the State House of Assembly come 2019.
Ekanem made the declaration on Saturday 21st October, 2017 in his home town Ikot Nsidebe, Okon-Eket when he was honored as the political leader of his community.
“I hereby use this opportunity to tell all of us today that I want to consolidate on the achievement of Hon David Lawrence who is currently effectively representing us at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, come 2019 because by then the seat will be vacant”, he said.
He said he was highly honoured to be asked to lead his people politically and that he was ready to represent them in the State level as a law maker because he was qualified.
“I have the political experience and your support, I have served my Community and Akwa Ibom State in various capacities and I am sure I am being honoured today because of my pedigree”, Willie said.
Speaking earlier, the member representing Eket State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, David Lawrence described Ekanem as a worthy son of Ekid and a light bearer of the community.
He elaborated his achievements in the State House of Assembly and urged the people to support the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel who he said has done enormously well for the State and deserves a second term.
Also speaking, the flag bearer of the PDP in the forth coming Local Government election in Eket, Hon Frank Archibong paid glowing tribute to Mr Ekanem Willie for his services to Eket in various capacities over the years.
He said that his administration, if elected, will be all inclusive, adding that the people of Ikot Nsidibe made a good decision in honouring their son as political leader of the area and called on them to support the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the local government election and the general elections in 2019.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of the Holy Bible to Hon Frank Archibong and Hon David Lawrence by the Clan Head of Okon-Clan, His Highness Obong Akpabio Ekpoton on behalf of the Community.
The event was graced by dignitaries from across the State including the commissioner for culture and tourism, Rt Hon ,Victor Antai, Mrs Abigail Edohoeket, Otuekong Ikpe Ubokudom, Engr Abraham Emmanuel Udoh, Obongiwaad Emman Mbong, Chief Udo Isong , Afianwe Kingsley Edoho, professor Etieben Akpan and Chief A. J. Umana among others including youths and women groups.
