2019: Eket Federal Constituency Students Endorse Dr. Godwin Umontuen for House of Representative
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, students under the aegis of Eket Federal Constituency Forum have thrown their weight behind the Rector, Maurid Polytechnic, Dr. Godwin Umontuen in his quest to represent Eket Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abuja.
The students hinged their decision on Dr. Umontuen’s contributions to the educational upliftment of youths, job creation amongst others. They observed that if as a private citizen, the Rector can achieve so much then if voted into office as a representative of the Federal Constituency, he would record phenomenal achievements for the benefit of the people.
Organizing Secretary of the forum, Mr. Idorenying Udobong noted that Eket deserve an articulate and hardworking representative, describing Dr. Umontuen as a round peg in a round hole and a pride to the youths. He lamented what he described as “poor representation of the federal constituency under the current dispensation, and urged the entire students of the Federal Constituency to support the ambition of the aspirant.
The Vice Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, ONNA Chapter, Mr. Collins Bob commended the students for endorsing Dr. Umontuen describing him as an educationist par excellence and a shining role model to the youths. He enjoined the entire people in the federal constituency to rally behind him in view of hi giant stride in capital and human development which has resulted in the employment of over two hundred and fifty persons in his Organizations.
Responding Dr. Umontuen lauded the students for the confidence reposed on him, assuring them of effective representation. He observed that as the largest oil producing area in the country, Eket Federal Constituency must be effectively represented by a go getter desirous of the betterment of the People’s wellbeing.
As an educationist, he explained that his passion for qualitative education knows no bound hence his establishment of Maurid Polytechnic and Maurid Institute of Technology which has employed over two hundred and fifty workers while thousands are also benefitting through indirect employment.
Giving an insight into his agenda, Dr. Umontuen listed these to include among other things vigorous pursuit of the federal government presence in the educational sector such as upgrading the Government Secondary school, Afaha Eket into a tertiary institution thereby providing direct and indirect employment to the people, agricultural pursuit, dogged support for the sustenance and possible increase of the 13% derivation and collaborating with other law makers towards ensuring that Calabar, Port Harcourt and the proposed I aka Sea port are well utilized for growth of the economy in the region.
The House of Reps hopeful promised to be accessible to the people in addition to holding periodic constituency briefings so as to gauge the mood of the people for effective representation. He then advised the students to register and collect their PVC cards and be prepared to vote massively for the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel during the 2019 election in order to sustain the developmental stride of his administration.
While assuring them of his Preparedness to continue to support their educational pursuit he announced the donation of the sum of fifty thousand naira to Etudo Bright Imo towards the payment of her school fees.
Highlight of the occasion was the conferment of the patron of the organisation on Dr. Umontuen by the President, Miss. Goodness Lambert.
