… Condoles with the Bereaved family
A foremost socio-political organization in Eket Federal Constituency, Afigh Iwaad Ekid today buried the founding President of the organization, ObongIwaad Mbong Okon Mbong. Leading other members of the organization to pay last respect to their leader, the President General, ObongIwaad the 7th, Pastor Godwin Williams; said that the organization has indeed lost a pillar of strength and fountain of wisdom.
Presenting a Condolence Message on behalf of the organization, ObongIwaad Williams said that Chief Mbong Okon Mbong was a trail blazer, a political juggernaut and cultural icon who search for problems and offered solutions. He extolled the sterling leadership qualities of Late Mbong as being exceptional in intelligence and had passion for equity and justice for Ekid Nation.
“He was totally fearless with a rare courage, exceptional intelligence and had passion for equity and justice for the Ekid Nation.” He went further to say that Chief Mbong was held in high esteem and exude an uncommon vision for the advancement of his people.
ObongIwaad Pastor Williams said though his death is painful but the organization has no other option than to identify with the family in their moment of grief and prayed for the soul of their departed hero to rest in the bossom of the Lord.
In his condolence message, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel who was represented by Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang said that the late Mbong Okon Mbong was a revered personality and community leader who made meaningful contribution to the development of Eket local government area, the federal Constituency and the state as he played vital role in the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party and also served as pioneer Deputy Chairman of the party in the state.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who is also a Grand Patron of the organization supervised the performing of funeral rites in honour of the late founding president.
Also speaking at the funeral service was Senator representing Eket Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Nelson Effiong, former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Helen Esuene and Sen. Emmanuel Ibok Essien. While the State Chairman of PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo presented a Condolence Message on behalf of the party.
In attendance was the Political leader of Esit Eket, Elder Benjamin Udobia; HC. Culture & Tourism, Hon. Victor Antai; Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh; Member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State constituency, Hon. Eddy Etanganga; PDP Chapter chairman, Esit Eket, Chairmanship candidates for Esit Eket, Eket Mr. Iniobong Robson; Mr. Frank Archibong and his Nsit Ubium counterpart.
Others are Comrade Aniefiok Iwaudofia; SA Youths matters, Obongiwaad Isaiah Abia; SA project monitoring, Hon. Victor Bassey Isangedighi, Hon. Mfon Nkantuen; Mrs Abigail Edohoeket, Transition chairman, Eket, Rt. Hon. David Lawrence, Chief Nduese Essien, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, Dr. Sam Udonsak, clergies, eminent Nigerians and party faithfuls across the divide.
Also, all past presidents and members of Afigh Iwaad Ekid across the state and Calabar branch were in attendance to pay last respect to their leader and community mobilizer, the Mandela of Ekid, Late ObongIwaadMbong Okon Mbong.
The funeral service was conducted by the Apostolic Church, Field Temple Headquarters, Eket and was attended by Eket Field Superintendent, Apostle (Dr.) U. S. Ukpong and other ministers
