AKHA wants Ibom Specialist hospital Consultant to appear before Finance Committee
… As commissioner expressed sadness over dilapidated structures

The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State house of Assembly Committee on Appropriations and Finance, Dr Usoro Akpanusoh has directed the commissioner for Health to invite the Consultant that handle Ibom Specialist hospital (Cardio Medical services) to appear before committee members on or before Friday this week to determine if they still want to continue with the administration of the Ibom Specialist hospital.
This is sequel to information given by the Commissioner for Health that after 30 million was paid twice, before Cardio Medical services withdrew their services on the third installment and about 95 medical equipments were also reported missing at the Hospital.
The lawmaker also asked the commissioner to make available to the committee the MOU, lists of missing items and inventory of the Ibom International Specialist Hospital.
“We have come here to see things for ourselves and we will generally go back and do our report while making some recommendations for the House. Very importantly, the area Committee have shown sufficient interest is for you to send us the company’s MOU and the agreement with the Cardio care medical consultant and also extended invitation to the Cardio medical services. “Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh ordered
The Chairman, who is also the member representing Ibeno Esit Eket state constituency, used the opportunity to thank the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel Emmanuel, for enabling the resuscitation of the state owned hospital while urging the commissioner to fast track the recuperation of the facilities in order to save lives and generally the Akwa Ibom people.
Dr Akpanusoh further assured the commissioner state house of Assembly total comments to resuscitate the facilities at the hospital.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, while conducting the lawmakers round the premises,said that Cardio Management Services had shut down the hospital and sent in their termination letter to the state government.
He make known that they also shut down electrical power to damage the MIR machine and requested that 5 million be given to them to reactivate it, even after the ministry of health had paid the sum of 180 million but Cardio Sent in their termination letter on the 25th of September, 2017. But had left long before the written date.
“While in their termination terms of agreement, the state government was to pay not less than 10milion or $5 million to Cardio if the want to terminate their services while Cardio Medical Services was to give state government six months notice of termination with no cost as one of the terms of agreement but they failed to do so but rather terminate their service”.
The Commissioner used the occasion to debunked stories by the contractor said it was false that the were owning salary as $5 million dollars operational fee was paid through loans from the bank pleading that the state lacks funds then. Adding that 1 million was paid for equipment, 250 million was paid for casualties of Reigners Bible Church collapse victims while payment of additional 30 million for was made to Cardio management twice while they withdrew their services on the third installment.
The Commissioner, further expressed sadness over the dilapidated structures in the hospital such as , oxygen sites as proper connection was not constructed well ,ceilings, chairs, glasses blown out, leakages in the electrical, double plated glass damaged and attributed it to lack of maintenance and repair ..
According to him, the state government has so far intervened by bring in Dr Ini Etukukoh as the head of medical services to mange the hospital as work /treatment has long started at the hospital.
He make known that five specialists are being screen in order to choose one to take over the management of the hospital soon.
