Akwa Ibom Assembly defend 2018 Budget before Appropriation committee

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly today appeared before members of the House committee on Appropriations and Finance headed by Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh to defend their 2018 Budget estimate.
The Speaker of the 6th Assembly, Rt Hon Barr Onofiok Luke, who was ably represented by the Clerk of the House Mrs Mandu Umoren, told the House committee on Appropriations and Finance,that in the year 2017, the House was able to access 655 million and generated the sum of 3. 3 Million as revenue through the sales of unserviceable items.
The Assembly proposed the total budgetary size of N2.8Billion for the year 2018 year . The clerk disclosed that the money will be used to carry out the following projects , 12 million for establishments of unique Assembly press , 15 million for consultancy services , equipment of the Assembly clinic, maintenance of the Assembly complex, 225 million for flood control around the Assembly premises, 30 million for procurement of shade cover (car park for members) and Provision of CCTV security camera for the Assembly premises.
She further asked the committee to increase the money to enable the House carry out all their projects while soliciting for the implementation of 32% legislative allowance and wardrobe allowance which for Assembly workers.
Responding, the chairman of the committee, Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh, expressed satisfaction that the monies appreciated for the House in the year 2017 was judiciously used and they even generated revenue.
He urged the Clerk to ensure that durability and standard materials should be used whenever renovation is carried out in the Assembly premises so as to stand the test of time.
“What so ever that we do, let’s do something that can stand the test of time may be 5-8years. ”
Those that accompanied the Clerk to defend 2018 Budget were Mr Ime Moffat (Director of Administration), Mr Edet Esang (Director of PRS), Mr Anietie Eka (Legal services Department) and Mr Jeremiah Effiong (Head Finance and supply) among other administrative staff of the Assembly.
Meanwhile, those that also appeared before the committee members to defend their ministry’s budget were Ministry of Agriculture and food Sufficiency, led by Mr. Charles Udo Inyang and Ministry of Economic Development.
