Akwa Ibom Attorney General Stalls Justice, Arrests A Court Judgment On Day Of Delivery
It was no mean drama in court last Wednesday as Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, the Attorney General of Akwa Ibom State moved to stall justice in an ongoing litigation involving Prince Ubong Akai (a former contender for PDP Esit Eket Chairmanship ticket as the plaintiff) against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Iniobong Robson (the sitting chairman of Esit Eket) and the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission.
It is gathered that parties to the suit having been instituted since September 2017, had submitted their arguments on January 8th, 2018 and were waiting for judgment due on Wednesday, 7th February 2018 only for the Attorney General to storm the court filing processes to arrest the judgment of the court.
Typically, the court did not find such mischief at the expense of justice funny neither did the plaintiff and PDP in the matter.
It has been gathered that the State Attorney General was served since 2017 with all the court processes but he chose to sit back and refused to take any step in the matter.
Some political analysts in the state have also questioned the sincerity of the Attorney General and lawyers in his office of their interest in the suit.
“ought to have acted in such direction earlier considering the fact that the suit has been running for months and was due for judgment after all, equity does not favour the indolent neither is the right to fair hearing an infinite claim without limits or respect for other people’s rights.
Meanwhile, our reporter observed that everyone left the court wondering what the Attorney General intends to achieve by gate-crashing in a purely intra party suit.
The State Legal Adviser of the party, Barr Giddy Umoh is already representing the PDP while the sitting chairman of Esit Eket is being represented by a counsel which therefore begs the question as to what interest the AG intends to achieve since AKISIEC is supposed to be an impartial arbiter and why the court should so oblige him. Moreso, when he had all the time in the world to put in a defence.
This move sources say may not be unconnected with the claim and boasts of Hon. Iniobong Robson(the sitting chairman) that he has already promised the Attorney General three months allocation if he can change the tide to his favour.
The Council Boss has been accused of boasting to friends and associates that he has all it takes to turn the judgement in his favour.
Meanwhile, the actions of the Commissioner has continued to receive wild condemnation from various quarters.
Uwem Paul a legal practitioner in Akwa Ibom State informed our reporter that in legal jurisprudence, the law finds the actions of Barr Nwoko as an act highly reprehensible as the rules of the various courts do not provide for an arrest of judgment
