Ahead of Saturday’s local government election in Akwa Ibom State, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters-Senate , Senator Ita Enang has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his home local government area, Ibiono Ibom, to insist that officials of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) display the right ballot materials at polling units before commencement of voting.
He spoke on Saturday at Ikpa, Ibiono Ibom, during his reception by Nka Iberedem Ndito Ibiono Ibom, a leading sociopolitical organization in the area, which was held jointly with the flag-off of the APC local government campaign rally in Ibiono Ibom.
The presidential aide said it was important for the APC faithful in Ibiono Ibom to be vigilant during the elections because of past experience in which fake ballot materials were brought to polling units by electoral officials in connivance with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party in the state.
Enang, who was honoured alongside the APC State Secretary, Dr. Effiong Etok, described the APC as the right party for Ibiono Ibom and urged the people of the area to vote the party in all elections to fully connect with the Federal Government controlled by the APC.
He commended the group for calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to run for a second term, promising to deliver their message to the appropriate quarters.
The Patron of Nka Iberedem Ndito Ibiono Ibom, Engr. Kufre Inyang, announced the resolve of the group and other members of the APC in Ibiono Ibom to deliver the party in all elections in the area.
He described the APC State Secretary, Dr. Effiong Etok, as a rare model and an epitome of humility, steadfastness, commitment, diligence and pragmatism.
Mr. Innocent Asanga, a former PDP State Administrative Secretary, who chaired the reception, described election riggers as thieves and called on the electorate to be vigilant on Saturday.
The APC State Chairman, Dr. Amadu Attai, who presented flags to the 11 councillorship candidates of the party in Ibiono Ibom, charged them to campaign in all nooks and crannies of the area for victory in the elections.
The APC rally featured the defection of hundreds of PDP members led by Barr. Ime Asanga, a prominent Lagos-based lawyer.
APC leaders present included a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Engr. Ignatius Edet and a former PDP State Deputy Chairman, Bishop Samuel Akpan.
