Akwa Ibom LG Poll: This victory is sweet- PDP

This victory is sweet: Thank you Akwa Ibom people

With the release of the results of elections into councillorship and chairmanship positions in the Local Government areas by the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) confirming the earlier declaration by officers of the commission at the wards and local government areas, wherein our 31 chairmanship and Councillorship candidates were victorious. I, on behalf of the leadership and membership of the Peoples Democratic Party express our deep seated gratitude for the continued confidence reposed in our party by the electorate. More specifically, we appreciate the courage exhibited by citizens and voters even in the face of intimidate and outright violence perpetrated by opposition parties in the course of the elections.

The result of this election like the others in our political history, has again confirmed that indeed PDP is a religion in Akwa Ibom.

This victory is sweet for several reasons, chief among them being the fact that the result is the natural consequence of the past months of political activities as widely acknowledged by all rational observers. All through the period relevant to this exercise, our party alone was visible, traversing all the units, wards, local government areas in the state, engaging the populace and appealing for votes .

During the campaigns different people representing critical groups of voters assured us of their support and the results have vindicated them.

I therefore congratulate the 31 chairmen-elect and the 329 councillors-elect on their victory and charge them to be humble in victory.

This victory is a testimonial to the fact that physical political engagement will always supersede propaganda and social media misinformation.

Like Paul the apostle, we ran the race, kept the faith and finished the course, today the awaited crown of glory is here to adorn our heads . We are thankful to God almighty who confers every authority on earth for finding our candidates worthy of being the custodians of the sacred trust of the people in their respective areas.

We will continue to uphold the best standards of political behaviour expected of a responsible political party.

We must also thank AKISIEC and the security agencies for the conduct of free, fair, credible and peaceful elections as witnessed by all who participated and acknowledged by even the opposition parties.
