Akwa Ibom State  PDP loses 500 members to APC

The exodus from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State continued on Friday with the defection of over 500 PDP members in the two wards of Ukpum Ete Clan in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.

Led by a former PDP chairmanship aspirant, Mr. Ndifreke Hanson the defectors joined the APC during a ceremony held at Ukpum Ete Civic Centre.

Mr. Hanson who spoke on behalf of the defectors said they decided to join APC, having noticed the politics of inclusion played in the party unlike PDP where Ukpum Ete was relegated in the scheme of things among Ikot Abasi’s five clans.

He predicted a clean sweep by the APC of all elective positions in the clan and local government area in 2019.

Receiving the defectors, the Akwa Ibom South Senatorial APC Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Oton commended them for taking a courageous decision and promised them equal opportunities as old members in APC.

He said with the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari to run for a second term, APC was set to record a huge victory in the 2019 elections.

The Special Assistant on Administration to the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Pastor Udo Isaiah who is from Ukpum Ete, said PDP had nothing to offer Ikot Abasi people and commended the people for their steadfast support for the APC.

He said with the assent of the NDDC budget by President Buhari, Ikot Abasi and the rest of Akwa Ibom State and the Niger Delta region would benefit from more projects because the NDDC Managing Director, Obong Nsima Ekere was passionate about the development of the region.
