Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters-Senate, Senator Ita Enang has called on Akwa Ibom people to rise up and demand from Governor Udom Emmanuel the whereabouts of the Federal allocations and every monies accrued to the State.
Enang said that it was the right of the people to demand for account on monies received and spent on behalf of the state, as doing such would help alleviate the biting poverty and starvation the people have been subjected to by the PDP government in the state.
Enang, a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria spoke at the weekend when he addressed a mammoth crowd of APC faithful who gathered at the Uyo Township Stadium for the official flag-off of Local Government campaign in Akwa Ibom State.
According to him, “even if Akwa Ibom State was used as collateral, it’s our responsibility to rise as a people and deliver the state. We cannot continue to complain and lament of lack when few people are living in comfort zone with what is given to us all as a state”
“It’s time to demand for account of every monies collected from the federal government by your governor”.
He noted that the Federal Government was gracious to the people of Akwa Ibom State by “bottle feeding and spoon feeding” the state monthly because the state doesn’t generate any revenue or have a prove to show for what its generates monthly.
At the occasion, Ita Enang presented a publication detailing what Akwa Ibom State got from the Federal Government since May 2015 – 2017, when Mr Udom Emmanuel assumed office as Governor.
He quoted the governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel as saying , “today, oil prices have gone over sixty one Dollars per barrel. Last month, the allocation they gave to Akwa Ibom State was lower than what they gave us before. How can you explain that?” during the PDP local government campaign flag-off in Uyo
Pointing out that the above assertion by Mr Udom Emmanuel during the PDP rally in Uyo made it apparent that Akwa Ibom people and indeed the public are not aware of the amount of money sent to each states of the Federation and indeed Akwa Ibom State by the Buhari’s led administration. Hence the reason for the publication which he said was based on the freedom of Information Act.
