Akwa United FC began their CAF Confederation Cup campaign in Uyo on a losing note on Sunday, by falling 1-2 in the first round, first leg match against Hawks of Gambia.

It was Abdu Maikaba’s men’s first defeat at home in all competitions this season.

The Promise Keepers dominated possession from start to finish in the game but were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal.

Banjul Hawks got the opener through Mohammed Jallow in the the 11th minute, while Lamine Chatty added the second in the 34th minute.

Victor Mbaoma reduced the deficit for the hosts in the 72nd minute.
