COE Provost in secret pact with Nsima Ekere *Pours cold water on Udom
*Says Governor not ready to develop College of Education, Afaha Nsit
The Rector of Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Professor Mathew Ekpo has ‘nicodemusly’ ditched his employers, the Akwa Ibom State Government and has opted to support the ambition of the MD/CEO of NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere if the former Governor emerges the gubernatorial candidate of the APC ahead of the 2019 governorship election.
THE INK gathered from not less than three top management staff of the institution that the COE provost had described Udom as not being serious with restructuring the College of Education in terms of infrastructural renaissance especially in terms of road construction the Akwa Ibom State Government earlier promised them.
Management staff of the College hinted our reporter that Professor Ekpo is angry that the state Government after awarding a contract for the construction of some roads in the college, decided to abandon it. He is alleged to have informed his staff that such development does not go down well with his image as an administrator and hence the need for him to seek the services of the MD/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Obong Nsima Ekere.
Our news desk gathered that Professor Mathew Ekpo had informed some of his close staff that Nsima Ekere being his kinsman has promised to extend his tentacles of development to the Institution. Sources informed THE INK reporter that the college Provost had met with Nsima Ekere twice ever since he was appointed to head the institution by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Although, our sources could not disclose the very reasons behind the meeting between both men, those who volunteered information to our reporter maintained that the meeting between the duo must have discussed amongst other things the support of the University Don for Nsima Ekere should the Ikot Abasi born Deputy Governor emerges the APC flagbearer for the 2019 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.
THE INK reporter understands that Professor Ekpo seem to be at a loss on where the budget accruing to the institution has been going to.
For instance, a very prominent staff in the Bursary Department of the Institution while volunteering information to our reporter said, the Provost is angry that he appeared before the House of Assembly committee on Finance and Appropriation to defend a budget that he has never superintended over.
The Provost was alleged to have said that all the monies accruing to the College of Education has never been released to him and added that it is on the strength of this and the refusal of the State Government to attend to the dilapidated nature of roads in the College of Education that he feels Nsima Ekere and the APC in Akwa Ibom State will do better if they get into power in 2019.
Those who understand the unfolding drama in the college told our reporter that what is giving the Provost more confidence is the fact that he comes from Ikot Abasi where Nsima Ekere also hails from.
As at press time, efforts to speak with the College Provost could not yield a positive result as he did not respond to a text message sent to his phone.
