Cultism: APC to Udom: Compel your Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen to Publicly Denounce Cultism to Prove You Are Not A Cultist or Their Patron.
AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, DEACON UDOM GABRIEL EMMANUEL, EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE
Compel Your Personal Aides, Advisers, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen and Councilors to Publicly Denounce Cultism to Prove You Are Not A Cultist or Their Patron.
The attention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, has been brought to your recent statement in which you proscribed cultism in the state. While there are still doubts in some quarters, considering the origin of cultism, alleged sponsors and beneficiaries as well as their mode of operation in the state, the Party however sees this as a welcomed development and would take you serious only if you shall heed to our advice herein.
Firstly, we are marveled at Your Excellency’s full knowledge of the names of cult groups operating in the state even down to Secondary and Primary Schools including their grades. Could this be a confirmation of the allegations that you and your ‘godfather’, the immediate-past Governor (now Senator), Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, know all the cult groups in the state and have been patronizing them?
Now that you have admitted openly on their existence in the state, we also believe that you must have also been briefed of their operational locations as well as their leaders and membership at least, by your Security Advisers and Intelligence.
Recall that our great party, the APC, has been shouting on the menace of cultism in Akwa Ibom state, blaming same on your party (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP), and even accusing your party of sponsoring and patronizing these cult groups in this state. We are vindicated by your open admittance of their alleged existence and wish that you shall take a step further by compelling those who informed you of their existence and details to go further by exposing their sponsors and beneficiaries.
We were perplexed when few weeks ago it was reported that a certain cult leader popularly called ‘Iso Akpafid’ was murdered by security agencies in the state. As welcomed as this development could be, our concern is the intelligence that emerged to the effect that he was murdered even after being successfully captured by the overpowering security forces, allegedly based on ‘instruction from above’, in order to cover up the imminent possibility of him naming his sponsor, beneficiaries and patrons in an event of prosecution in the law court.
Furthermore, we have on good authority that a good number of your Personal Aides, Advisers, Commissioners as well as Local Government Chairmen and Councilors under your nose are either members or sponsors, patrons of cult groups even as most of them are direct and indirect beneficiaries of cultism-related activities in the state. Our Party has also been informed that they are currently going about initiating young men and women into these cult groups with promises of positions in your government and other benefits.
To this end, before we applaud your move as genuine, we challenge you, Your Excellency, to be courageous enough to order and compel all your Personal Aides, Special Advisers, Commissioners, Chairmen of Boards and Parastatals, Local Government Chairmen and Councilors serving under your regime to publicly, in the presence of the media, denounce cultism. Compel them also to condemn cultism publicly so as to earn the confidence of the women you addressed during the proscription statement as well as the people of Akwa Ibom state.
To clear yourself of any culpability in cult-related activities and patronage, we also challenge you to cause to be published all the names of the alleged cult members who were recently arrested by security forces while allegedly conducting their ‘cult’ meeting at a hotel in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state and also ensure their logical prosecution, otherwise, your innocence is in doubt!
Signed for the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom State:
