THE INK NEWSPAPER EDITOR CONDEMNS ARREST OF BLOGGER, Daniel Elombah
Editor of THE INK Newspaper, Nsibiet John has condemned the arrest of Mr. Daniel Elombah publisher of an online news platform Elombah.
In a press release signed by the Akwa Ibom born media star, the Editor described the arrest as barbaric, a shame on the Police and an abuse of due process.
John however maintained that if the Elombah publisher has offended anyone that the person so offended should rather go to the appropriate quarters to seek redress rather than use men of the Special Anti Robbery squad of the Nigerian Police to attack and witch hunt the blogger.
He said the police allowing by themselves to be used by authorities against the media shows the level of intellectual deficiency the force has condescended to.
The media practitioner maintained further that since Daniel Elombah is yet to be informed of his offence, he should be released unconditionally and with immediate effect so he can reunite with his family.
Below is Nsibiet John Press Statement:
RELEASE DANIEL ELOMBAH UNCONDITIONALLY
Today January 1, 2018, news filtered into our ears that Mr. Daniel Elombah publisher of Elombah an online news platform was arrested in his house by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Nigerian Police Force.
We view the inhumane and animalistic treatment he received by the police as a clear departure from the norms expected of a police formation in today’s Nigeria.
Our position is that with the victimization of Elombah who is a defenceless Nigerian Citizen and media practitioner, the Police has once again proven that it is an institution that does not have the security of Nigerians at heart.
Our medium is troubled that till this time, no reason has been given for the abduction, torture and arrest of the daring publisher.
This however puts to question the dishonesty to which Elombah was arrested.
Rather than state categorically who ordered and why Elombah was arrested, Nigerians are told that the directive to get Elombah arrested was given from above.
Nigerians demand to know the identity of the above and why Elombah was arrested.
This will at least help to clear some records and put paid to some doubts.
Where this is unachievable, we are requesting the immediate and unconditional release of Elombah to allow him reunite with his family.
Whoever is pained or hurt by the reports of Elombah should approach necessary quarters to seek a redress.
The continuous and inhumane treatment given to Elombah is totally unacceptable, callous, barbaric and an affront on sensibilities.
We request his release and an apology from the defaulting agency.
