I am an Elder in the Living Faith Church and can’t subscribe to Mbiam -Godwin Umontuen
The battle to succeed Mrs. Ekpoattai in the Ninth National Assembly as member representing Eket Federal Constituency, has taken a gory dimension following the sacrilegious steps taken by some extremist who have decided to throw their hat into the ring.
It was gathered that one of the aspirants, Dr. Godwin Umontuen, Chairman, Maurid Polytechnic, who is vying to represent Eket Federal Constituency in the National Assembly in 2019, has resorted to traditional politics of wooing the electorates with money, only after they’ve sworn to an Ibibio oath of injunction (Mbiam) using his proxy, Mr. Samuel Udoeyo to perpetuate the barbaric act.
According to a statutory delegate who wants to remain anonymous, Dr. Umotuen through his proxy, Sam Udoeyo invited women who are statutory delegates and several other persons from Eket Local Government to his house along Esa Akpan Avenue, to inform them of their readiness to dole out any amount of money to them if they agree to swear to the oath.
She said Udoeyo, promised that Dr. Umontuen (his Principal) will only be convinced of their stance to support him if there is a spiritual bond, prepared on the demonic coven between them that will make them inseparable twin till the electioneering process is completed.
She went further to state that since they were not ready to swear their oath of secrecy, they informed Mr. Udoeyo to reconvene women so that they can think over their demands and make it known to the principal on a new date that will be agreed upon.
Another delegate, Ekaette Udoh said “Quote me if you want to, I am a Christian. I have watched people die mysteriously just because they swore to that nonsense for a peanut that can’t even sustain you for one week; I will be the last person to join the cue of evil mongers against my Christian faith”
It could be recalled that during the Constituency Briefing/ Empowerment of Mrs. Owoideghe Ekpottai, the incumbent member representing Eket Federal Constituency, the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel reiterated a call on the electorates to reject any aspirant who wants them to sign a pact with evil, noting that traditional oath does not just influence the choice of an excellent representation, but leads people to their untimely death.
Reacting to the allegation, Dr. Umontuen in a phone interaction with this reporter said he does not subscribe to traditional oath, which is against his faith as an Elder in the Living Faith Church.
Umontuen said that Mr. Udoeyo is working for so many people who are vying to represent the people in both Federal and State legislative chambers.
He said “if actually he has subscribed to giving people traditional oath, which I doubt, it is not for me”.
He stressed that God has blessed him beyond the administration of traditional oath to people just because he wants to represent the people in the National Assembly, reiterating further that election is not a doctrine or die affair.
