Gunmen kill Commissioner’s brother, two others in Akwa Ibom


GUNMEN suspected to be assassins have killed three persons in Ikot Oku Usung village in Ukanafun local government area of Akwa Ibom state this morning, Vanguard news reports.

A reliable source from the area told Vanguard that the incident occurred about 6:am today (Sunday)

According to our source the gunmen entered the compound of the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Mr.Udoh Ekpenyong and shot three persons dead including the Commissioner’s younger sister whose name was not made known yet.

“We learnt that after the gunmen left the commissioners House they proceeded to the residence of former commissioner of education Mr.Aniekan Akpan. But they did not see anybody in the compound, so they left.

“But police have started “Stop and search”, in the local government area”.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned the use of motorbikes in Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun local government areas.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, explained in Uyo that the ban, which takes place today (Sunday) will be enforced from 6pm to 7am daily.

According to Elkana, the measure is aimed at tackling the rising tide of crimes like murder and kidnapping, which are usually perpetrated in the affected councils through the use of motorbikes.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has banned the use of motorbikes at Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun LGAs from 6pm to 7am with effect from November 19, 2017 till further notice.

“The command wishes to state categorically that violators of this order will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he said.
