The First phase of The Masterclass Internship Program with Mark Essien of Hotels.ng in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Science and Technology came to a close on the 25th of October, 2017. Graduates of this program have been armed with what it takes to thrive in the software development industry.
Over 2050 Akwa Ibom’s youth partook in a software development internship program which was aimed at arming with the skills required to thrive as freelancers in the industry.
The remote internship program which commenced on the 1st of September, 2017and was created to provide an opportunity for young people in the state to plug into global trends.
The programme was designed for beginners, to help improve their skills in the area of software development, user interface and user experience (UI/UX).
The interns were given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while learning to collaborate, innovate, solve real problems. Participants of this program also received stipends as they progress in the program.
The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Science and Technology provided the interns with free access to the Uyo e-Library for the duration of the program. This initiative is in line with the Science and Technology minister’s plans to groom 5,000 software developer within the state, in a period of 5 years.
While this program was targeted at residents of Akwa Ibom, the hotel booking company has two remote internship programmes every year for participants across Nigeria. Hotels.ng ’s CEO, Mark Essien has said the next general internship will be announced in December 2017.
