Ikot Ekpene lawmaker in 250 million bribe scandal

Former Commissioner for Works in the Godswill Akpabio administration and Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien have sold the slot if Ikot Ekpene Local government area to the National Assembly to Mr. Emmanuel Akpan for the sum of twenty five million naira, THE INK was informed by political heavy weights in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area over the weekend.
Our reporters were informed that Mr. Emmanuel Akpan whom Godswill Akpabio promised the people will go to the National Assembly for one term and then relinquish power to Ikot Ekpene local Government Area in 2019 has for the past five months and more been consolidating for his second term ambition.

Akpan who has come under heavy pressure and intense criticisms because of what many described as his poor performances at the green chambers of the National Assembly is unperturbed as he keeps boasting that he is going to use his money to buy his way into the National Assembly for a second term.

The former State lawmaker to make true his position on buying his way is said to have personally gone to the political leader of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District for consultation where he paid the ex senator the sum of 10million naira.

Apart from Ibokessien, the Assemblyman is said to have also paid Don Etim the sum of fifteen million naira for support.

Those who understand this gimmicks by the Essien Udim lawmaker observed that with the bribe collected by the two men, that they will in turn seek to influence the decision of the people and or begin the process of announcing that Ikot Ekpene whose turn it is to present a candidate to the House of Representative for the Federal Constituency has suspended her ambition for Essien Udim to go for a second term.

Those who are in the know of the politics in the area informed THE INK that it is very likely that in the coming days, the duo of Don Etim and Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien will Champion a meeting and announce the withdrawal of Ikot Ekpene indigenes from the 2019 House of Representatives contest.

THE INK gathered that when this is done, that there will be a caveat that any Ikot Ekpene person seeking to contest for the National Assembly seat will be doing so at his or her own peril and will not have the backing of the leaders of the Local Government Area.

It was gathered that Emman Akpan who is presently the occupant of the seat is bent on ensuring that he gets his way and has positioned a very heavy financial war chest which he intends to use in prosecuting his 2019 ambition for a return to the Federal House of Representatives.

Earlier before bribing Don Etim and Emmanuel Ibokessien, the Lawmaker is said to have organized what he referred to as a political seminar for a section of youths whom he feel will fast forward the prosecution of his ambition.

A source who attended the meeting cum seminar informed THE INK that the sum of Two Hundred Thousand naira only was paid to participants adding that the real and primary targets are politicians from Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

But this development has irked the people of Ikot Ekpene who spoke unequivocally as they described Don Etim and Senator Ibokessien as Traitors, sellouts and dishonest people.

Efforts to confirm this development from Emman Akpan proved abortive as an SMS sent to his phone was not responded to as at the time this paper went to press last night.

Don Etim while kicking against his involvement in the bribery allegation told our reporter via sms that, the allegations against him of collecting 25million naira from Emman Akpan to sell the slot of Ikot Ekpene to him is not true adding that, that is not his style.

Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien refused to comment on the allegations of bribe made against them fuelling the belief that he must have actually been a beneficiary of the ten million naira bribe offered him by Representative Emmanuel Akpan.
