Inibehe Effiong to Udom: Call your sycophants to order, Akwa Ibom State is being portrayed negatively in Nigeria because of the despicable activities of your praise singers
Lagos-based Legal Practitioner and Human Rights Activist, Mr. Inibehe Effiong has asked Governor Emmanuel to immediately call his sycophants to order, that Akwa Ibom State is being portrayed negatively in Nigeria because of the despicable activities of his praise singers who have made up their minds to be useless to the society.
Effiong said this in reaction to “Media Attacks On Premium Times Editor Cletus Ukpong By Agents Of The Akwa Ibom State Government”
Inibehe posted below on his Facebook Page.
I have read with utter indignation the consistent media attacks directed at the South South Editor of online Newspaper Premium Times, Mr. Cletus Ukpong, by appointees and media hirelings of the Government of Akwa Ibom State, ostensibly triggered by the reporter’s recent mind blowing investigative reports on the total collapse of public education in Akwa Ibom State.
These malicious and irresponsible attacks which is being coordinated by certain individuals whose entire existence is centred on feeding from the crumbs of every government in power in Akwa Ibom should not be tolerated by people of good conscience.
Mr. Cletus Ukpong has not done anything outside his professional obligations and mandate as an independent, reputable and highly respected investigative reporter and journalist. He has consistently reported on issues that affects the populace with the aim of drawing attention to them.
We are aware that the present crop of political office holders in Akwa Ibom State do not only resent every form of critical opinion but views probing questions as evil which should be crushed.
Akwa Ibom State today is being led by a gangster regime that relishes in infantile, imbecilic and atrocious behaviours. The arrogant disdain for public opinion by the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration shows a deep character flaw on the part of the governor and his aides.
I unreservedly condemn the primitive media attacks on Mr. Ukpong and his family.
Section 22 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) guarantees Press Freedom and the right of the media to hold the government accountable. Also, Section 39 of the Constitution guarantees freedom of expression to all Nigerians.
Governor Emmanuel should immediately call his sycophants to order. Akwa Ibom State is being portrayed negatively in Nigeria because of the despicable activities of these praise singers who have made up their minds to be useless to the society.
Rather than resort to crude media attacks on Mr. Ukpong and his family, the state government should give satisfactory account of funds expended on public primary and secondary schools in the last decade. The government should immediately take steps to revive public education in Akwa Ibom State.
This shameful propaganda will not distract us from the truth revealed in the investigative reports which have not been countered.
Lastly, the Akwa Ibom State Government should know that if any harm is done to Cletus Ukpong or any member of his family, there will be no second guessing on those responsible.
