* VOW TO PROTEST SOON
*AKWA IBOM LAW STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION, UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR CHAPTER* .
Notice No. 0013/2017
*RE: URGENT AND SPECIAL FINANCIAL APPEAL TO SUPPORT A COMPULSORY LEGAL TRAINING AT THE NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL*
#Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State
#Senators and Honourable Members Representing Akwa Ibom State Federal Constituencies at the National Assembly
#Hon. Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly
#Commissioner for Education, Akwa Ibom State
#Akwa Ibom State Community in UNICAL
Recall that Akwa Ibom State is designated and christened “the promised land”; a land flowing with milk and honey so much so that the milk that flows from the breast of our motherland rains across the northern boundaries, low-water marks and continental shelf, extending beyond the territorial waters and sea-beds, even to the downtrodden in strange lands.
Our hands of benevolence have not also ceased to extend across our sister states and beyond; at least, we are witnesses here in Jerusalem.
Recall also that the Governor Obong Victor Attah led administration initiated and implemented the policy of Law School grants to successful Akwa Ibom Law students to assist in footing the bills of the Nigerian Law School.
It is also indelible in our minds that His Excellency, Governor Godswill Akpabio re-branded the fate of our law graduates by ensuring prompt payment of Law School grants and donation of laptop computers to facilitate admission and hitch-free studies in the Nigerian Law School.
The lofty philosophies of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel have not also left quality education out of the plan. But one question remains unanswered.
Why do we have more percentage of Law graduates from Akwa Ibom State who are unable to proceed to the Nigerian Law School due to lack of finance?
Why do we have greater number of law students who are unable to pay tuition fees and are consequently thrown out of the examination halls during exams?
It is even more dangerous here in University of Calabar where we are treated as being in Jerusalem without the knowledge that Jesus Christ had risen. In the exact words, “you people are not close to the seat of government”.
Currently, we have avalanche of Law graduates from the Akwa Ibom State extraction who are unable to pay their way to the Nigerian Law School.
Some obtained their Registration Forms through donations from sympathisers and well wishers, particularly our brothers here in the so-called Jerusalem.
The most painful part is the fact that those affected includes the Overall Best Graduating Student of the Faculty of Law in the person of ESSIEN DAVID ANDY with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.48. How this gentleman completed his undergraduate course is a story for another day.
This gentleman is at the verge of being frustrated, having being offered admission to the Nigerian Law School but without the financial strength to pursue the professional course.
It is on this note that we strongly solicit financial support to at least, enable this gentleman proceed to the Nigerian Law school in his admission year.
We call on Philanthropists, Private and corporate bodies, NGO’s, Government Agencies, good sons and daughters of Akwa Ibom State and well-meaning Nigerians to help in getting this promising young man back on track as soon as possible.
We are in search of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (250, 000) only
On the contrary, We, the Leadership and indeed, the conglomeration of Akwa Ibom Law Students in the University of Calabar hereby announce our intention to pay a *”Compulsory, Emergency and Ugly Visit”* to the Akwa Ibom State Government House if we lose our First Class brains to the street.
The Security details at the gate should get ready to open fire at us this time.
We are grateful to Barr. Voda Ezoke and Mr. Archibong Effiong for their sponsorship, and for always being there for AKILSA-UCC.
