The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA says it is impressed with the Maintenance, Repairs and Overhaul, MRO facility at the Akwa Ibom International Airport.

The Director of Air Worthiness Standards, NCAA, Engr Ita Awak, stated this Thursday, while fielding questions from Journalists at Government House, Uyo after a courtesy call on Governor Udom Emmanuel.

The Director was in the state for the inspection of the MRO facility alongside a former Governor and initiator of the airport project, Obong Victor Attah along with other technical experts from NCAA.

Eng Awak who affirmed that the safety standard of Ibom International Airport was very commendable, noted that the airport’s MRO facility, ranks among the best across the entire continent.

He however explained that as a regulatory body, NCAA will communicate with the State Government on measures to be taken for the MRO at Ibom Airport to meet with the required standard of the country’s aviation authority.

“We are confident that in view of the vision of the present government to industrialize the state, enough financial energy and other kinds of energies would be radiated into bringing the MRO to fruition,” Ita Awak emphasized.

He described the structure on ground as wonderful but encouraged everyone that is involved to do the needful in order to take the facility to the expected level.

The Director of Air Worthiness noted that it was not the duty of NCAA to go into partnership with State Government to run MROs but suggested that such could be explored with the Federal Government through the Ministry of Aviation.

He further explained that the Civil Aviation Authority, as a regulatory organization, is waiting for the investigative report on the recent air mishap which involved an Airline operating in the country before an informed pronouncement could be made on the matter.

Engr Ita Awak gave an assurance that NCAA was doing everything to make sure that all the Airlines fly safely for the good and safety of the passengers.

Also speaking with state House correspondents, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah who initiated the Airport and MRO facility stated he was excited by the federal government’s full recognition of an MRO in the Akwa Ibom airport.

The former Governor explained that it was always a thing of concern for him when people said Nigeria needed an MRO but he kept trying to convince them about the quality of the MRO building facility in Akwa Ibom State.

Few days ago, Governor Emmanuel had assured that his administration was working towards partnership with relevant stakeholders on the operations of the MRO, was full of hopes that the country’s Chief of Air Staff will facilitate his earlier promise to partner with the state in utilising the facility.

“We are also hoping that the Airforce Chief who also promised us that the Airforce will do something very urgent, will also try and see how we can start making use of the MRO,” the Governor said.
