Land Grabbing: Land Owners Petition Udom Over Ime Ekpo

The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has been petitioned over the activities of the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning superintend by Rev. (Arc) Ime Ekpo who is the General Overseer of God’s Own Ministry, Uyo for allegedly trespassing on lands belonging to several persons in the State.

In the petition titled “forcible Entry into Un-acquired land by Government functionaries: serious trouble loom in Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan, Ibesikpo Asutan local government area as youths barricade grader and staff of the Ministry of Lands” the petitioners, HRM Eze Jude Chidi Nwaogu, Very. Rev. Fr. Patrick Mbaba, Mr. Samuel Essien Ekanem and Mrs. Rose Nkereuwem Edentege, the petitioners lawyers, Boniface Effiong Esq and Associates noted that whereas government had acquired land within the area where their clients’ plots of land are located for industrial layout in 1970, the lands now trespassed by the Ministry under the watch of Ime Ekpo were never part of it.

The lawyers who had written to Arc Ime Ekpo on the matter noted that their clients have also communicated to the commissioner the sad development but he did nothing about it.

The petitioners stated that it was because the commissioner for lands and Town Planning failed to give them justice that they decided to communicate their problem to the State Governor for his urgent intervention.

Sadly, according to the lawyers, officials of the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning which Rev. Ime Ekpo oversees on Friday 9th up to Tuesday 12th September 2017 (and continually) have put in a grader to clear the buffer behind the banking layout beyond the tarred access, and the grader driver now threatens to clear the left hand side even far beyond Akpan Udoekong Street into their clients’ parcel of land.

The lawyers urged the governor to act fast and stop the trespass of the lands by officials of Ministry of Lands and Town Planning to avoid the recurrence of violence as earlier executed by youths.
