Nigeria Ambassador to The Gambia visit Akwa United’s camp
As Akwa United FC prepare to battle Hawks FC of Gambia in the second leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup match on Wednesday, Nigeria Ambassador to The Gambia His Excellency Oluwasegun Ibidapo-Obe visited the team at their camp at Seaview Hotel on Tuesday afternoon.
His Excellency Ibidapo-Obe welcomed the Akwa United delegation and said he was delighted to have received the team into The Gambia for the important assignment.
The Ambassador urged the Promise Keepers to give Nigeria the best representation in this year‘s CAF Confederation Cup competition while also using the opportunity to promote the country’s image and identity.
“On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, It is my pleasure to officially welcome Akwa United Football Club to The Gambia. It is my first time of receiving a Nigerian Football club in a foreign land. The Gambia is known as *the smiling coast of Africa* and we are here to ensure you have a memorable stay in this country.
” You are here to play football and it is an opportunity for you to represent your country in a foreign land. Do your best to be of good conduct and also remember to promote the good image and identity of Nigeria in the game you play.”

Responding on behalf of Akwa United’s delegation, the Akwa Ibom State Football Association Chairman Honourable Emmanuel Ibah expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Embassy for the warm reception accorded the team and promised that the team will do the nation proud in the competition.
The Club Chairman Elder Paul Bassey who described the Ambassador’s visit as an encouragement to the team, later presented Akwa United’s replica Jerseys to the Ambassador.
The Ambassador Oluwasegun Ibidapo-Obe was accompanied to Akwa United’s camp by two top officials of the Embassy, the Director of Chancery Mr John Reggea and Director of Administration Mr Masauki Godfrey.
Akwa United will aim to overturn a 1-2 first leg deficit on Wednesday to make it to the next round.
