ANOTHER wave of defection on Thursday, hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, when over 500 members of the party sought refuge in the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), citing marginalization and deception in the APC.
Christened “Uruan Restoration Alliance”, the defectors sang victory songs amidst jubilation at the PDP Local Government Elections Campaign held at the Uruan Local Government Mini Stadium in Idu, saying the APC-led Federal government has failed woefully, bringing untold hardship and suffering to citizens of the country.
In what sounded like a thanksgiving speech, the former APC Ward Chairman in Southern Uruan Ward 5, Pastor Solomon Okon who led the multitude of defectors, said their defection was destined by God after they were deceived and lured into the APC in 2015.
“What is happening today is not by accident. God knew that we will see light in PDP today. May His Name be praised forever. There is no APC in Uruan again,” he testified.
The former APC Ward Chairman applauded the State PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo for his purposeful leadership of the party in the state, saying he remains a role model worthy of emulation.
Speaking further, Pastor Okon decried the spate of confusion going on in the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State, maintaining that the APC is a party which has been divided into fragments, causing chaos in a bid to distract the developmental strides of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Extolling the good virtues of the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Road Maintenance and Other Agencies, Akparawa Godwin Ntukudeh, Okon said the erstwhile President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio was instrumental in their crossover to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The State PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, who received the defectors, assured that they would be treated fairly and admonished them to remain loyal to the Party, rather than go back to soil themselves in the filthy waters of the APC.
The Campaign Ceremony also featured the presentation of the party’s flags to the Chairmanship candidate, Mr. Henry Isaiah Udofia, the Vice Chairmanship Candidate, Mr. Bassey Bassey, Councillorship candidates and was graced by political stakeholders, party officers, past and present political office holders, Elderstatesmen, Clergymen, Royal Fathers, the organized labour, women and youth organizations and supporters of the party.
