Saturday, 18th November 2017 would remain evergreen in the minds of Akwa Ibom people as the Uyo Township Stadium welcomed an overwhelming crowd of supporters from all thirty-one Local Government Areas, the first of its kind in the history of opposition politics in the State.
The epoch-making event which was streamed live on NTA, AIT and social media channels was graced by dignitaries from all around the state and beyond.
It had in attendance the National Chairman of the Party, John Oyegun, SSA to the President on legislative matters, Sen. Ita Enang, MD NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere, MD Oil and Gas free trade zone, Obong Umana O. Umana, Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Otuekong Don Etiebet, Sam Ewang, Ben Ukpong, Sunny Udoh State Chairman, Ahmed Alli amidst other principal officers too numerous to mention.
The National Chairman, in his address, noted that President Buhari is working tirelessly to build a new Nigeria which the citizens would all be proud of. He called on all and sundry to join the APC movement so as to banish all evil in which the PDP government had left us in.
Speaking, Otuekong Don Etiebet thanked the people for the massive turnout and declared firmly that all plans by the PDP cohorts and their allies in AKISIEC to rig the Local Government elections would fail woefully, and that any electoral officer that plans to announce election results would face the consequences. He also warned the security operatives to avoid being used to achieve cheap political interests.
Awed by the weight of supporters, Governor Rochas Okorocha, had comically asked the crowd if he was actually attending a presidential rally or a Local Government Campaign, and of course, the echoed answer came in support of the latter. He congratulated the APC in Akwa Ibom State and confessed that he had never seen such a strong opposition in state politics before. He also extolled the unity and peaceful conduct exhibited by the youths, and advised the PDP leaders in their best interest, to ‘connect to the national grid’ if they must enjoy full benefits from the present government.
Senator Ita Enang, who is the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Legislative affairs also congratulated the people on their anticipated victory.
The senator frowned at the lies told by incumbent governor, Udom Emmanuel that the state hasn’t received enough allocations from the Federal Government, and also countered with evidence that the state has received an average of 34 billion Naira within from 2015 till date. He formally presented a book which contains all details about state allocations and urged the people to vote against such injustice and embrace change brought about by the APC.
Victory flags were presented to all aspirants from the thirty-one Local Government Areas, and supporters were thrilled to awesome performances by African China, Ikpa Udo, and Sugar Boy.
