ROYAL SCANDAL ! Akwa Ibom Village Head sells transformer meant for community

…Shares proceeds with allies

The Village Head of Ibiakpan Akananwan, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Chief Essiet Sunday Ifot has been accused of diverting a 33KVA Transformer issued to the village and in the habit of sabotaging the state government efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Ibiakpan Akananwan community.

This paper gathered from some members of Ibiakpan Akananwan community that the state government through Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs recently released a 33KVA Transformer to the community which has been in total blackout for a long time now due to lack of transformer. The Village Head, Chief Essiet Sunday Ifot is said to have taken delivery of the transformer for further installation. Sadly, he diverted the transformer, sold it out and shared the proceeds with four of his allies.

Our source who narrated the atrocities of the Village Head in Annang parlance Mr Otuekong Udo “ I got the information that the village head is in the business of selling out transformers meant for the village, I was in doubt because his brother deals on sales and repairs of transformer”.

He continued: “this transformer in question, I saw it in his compound few days ago only to get back, there the transformer had disappeared; the same thing he did with the one that spoiled”.

Another community member who volunteered the information about this mischief Village Head said that he went further to investigate whether he actually took delivery of the transformer. He discovered that the transformer was approved and released to Ibiakpan Akanawan in Ikot Ekpene LGA and Ibiakpan in Obot Akara Local Government Area.

“The conveyor of the transformers to the two communities delivered the one of Ibiakpan Akananwan (a 33KVA Transformer) in Ifot’s compound and further delivered that of Ibiakpan in Obot Akara Local Government Area (an 11 KVA Transformer) to the compound of the Village Head as well. The Village Head of Ibiakpan in Obot Akara Local Government Area confirmed this assertion and showed me same lying in his compound”, he said.

“To collaborate with the fact of issuance and delivery of the 33KVA Transformer, Chief Ifot confirmed that he actually took delivery of the transformer but went to exchange it with the one issued to Ibiakpan Obot Akara. The reason he gave for wanting to exchange a 33KVA with that of 11KVA is still unknown.

The truth is that the disappeared 33KVA transformer has been sold and the proceeds shared between himself and 3 of his allies including: Sunday Sunday Ifot, Uwem Nnana (self styled Youth President and Chief Ifot’s PA) and Sunday Udom.”

“Information reaching the village community stated that men of the Inter-Ministerial Team who are expected to install the Transformer were supposed to come to the village and they are still being expected to come anytime”, our source added.
The people revealed that the Village Head even forged the letter to get the Chieftaincy certificate in 2013 in which several petitions have flooded the Office of Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uyo.

They noted that chief Essiet Sunday Ifot has committed several other atrocities and wicked deeds to the people of Ibiakpan Akananwan community including forceful snatching of lands from indigenes of the area, extorting a whooping N70,000 monthly from Greenfield College and Topfaith Legacy College each in Ibiakpan as tax and Power Holding Bills without remitting same to the village coffer. Ifot is said to be ruling the community with impunity and without any recourse to the existing institutions of the village.

On his part, the Village Head (Chief Ifot) who spoke in a phone conversation with THE INK, denied the allegations but rained threats on this reporter, should this news be published.
