Ukanafun Crisis: Diversion Of Security Funds Uncovered -As Gunmen Wreck Havoc
The current activities of armed gang that have caused killings of hundreds of people, burning down of properties worth millions of naira, kidnapping, rape of victims may be far from over following an alleged diversion of security funds meant to fight the criminals.
The Sensor authoritatively gathered that about N20 million provided to fight the criminals who have forced many people out of their homes was said to have develop wings and disappeared.
The discovery of the missing funds was made recently during a meeting of Ukanafun stakeholders organized to strategize on how to end the crisis.
A source told The Sensor that two politicians fought dirty at the meeting on what has happened to the said N20 million that was meant for the security fighting the criminals.
The source at the meeting said, “Two strong politicians from the area openly fought as to the where about N20 million provided for security of the area”.
Though it was not revealed whether the money was provided by Federal or State Government, it was however discovered that it could not be accounted for as at the time of filing this report, a situation that confirmed the insinuations that some persons are benefiting from the crisis that has ravaged the area.
Meanwhile, the criminal gang on Friday night invaded Ikot Udo Obobo village and killed the village council secretary, Mr. Aniekan Sampson Akpan.
The Sensor learnt that aside the killing, the hoodlums burnt down several shops, four buildings including a guest house, and looted many other properties worth millions of naira before they escaped.
The operation which took the criminals over two hours to carry out, was not challenged by the security operatives as they were said to have visited the scene an hour after the gang left.
Speaking to our reporter, some members of the village council decried the unfortunate invasion of the community. They blamed it on porous security network despite playing host to Ukanafun Police Divisional Headquarters.
One of the village council members who pleaded anonymity said that the village is a link to many other communities and states including Abia, Rivers, Ika, Etim Ekpo and Oruk Anam.

He noted that the community need a JTF to station in other to check the activities of the criminals who capitalizes on the porous security network to wreck havoc.
He also called on the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to provide vehicles and other facilities to the security operatives to enable them to contend the criminals.
In a related development, the village head of Nkek Idim village, Ukanafun Local Government area, Chief Monday Udoudo is said to be cooling his feet at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, following illegal burial of one of his children, a 27 year old David Monday Udoudo allegedly killed recently by another of his son, Micah Monday Udoudo.
It would be recalled that Micah, was said to be a loyalist to late gang leader, Akaninyene Jumbo popularly known as Iso Akpafid.
David was said to have disappeared shortly after committing the crime and to cover up the killing, his father allegedly buried the son without reporting to the police fueling foul-play.
