The standard bearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Itu Local Government Area, Barr Etetim Onuk has disclosed that candidates on the platform of the party from the area will work together and ensure they would leave the Council better and stronger than it is now.
Onuk made the remark on Friday, when he led the Vice Chairmanship candidate, Mrs Emem Ekpanya and all PDP Councillorship candidates on a visit to the Hon. Commissioner For Housing and Special Duties, Mr Akan Okon.
According to Onuk, all candidates of the PDP have resolved to put the interest of the Local government first and ensure there is peace and stability in Itu. He declared that the conviction to succeed supersedes any personal interest.
Responding, Akan Okon said he is confident the Onuk led PDP team in Itu will come out victorious in the December 2 polls and kick-start the process of rebuilding Itu.
He congratulated them on the successes recorded so far and advised them to put aside personal interest or sentiments and remain united and committed to the development of the Local Government. He pledged to do his bid to ensure the party’s candidates sail through the December 2 elections victoriously and advised all party faithfuls not to relent until total victory is achieved.
“We have the opportunity to right the wrongs and move Itu to the desired height. With the people i have seen today, i believe you will leave the local government better than you met it. close ranks, operate an all inclusive government and ensure every decision you take, should be in the interest of the Itu.
We are always available to offer advice and moral support to all of you.” he said.
No Mistake Choosing You – Henry Archibong Tell Onuk, Others
The Member representing Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Henry Achibong has declared that members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Itu Local Government made no mistake in the nomination of Barr. Etetim Onuk, Mrs Emem Ekpanya and all Councillorship candidate as their representative, in the forthcoming Local elections in Akwa Ibom State. The assertion was aired when candidates on the platform of PDP from Itu paid a visit to the lawmaker.
Dr. Archibong averred that the nomination of Barr Onuk and others on the party’s platform is a reflection of the will of God Almighty and the collective decision of the people of Itu. He maintained that their emergence will paved the way for peace, unity and development, and charged them to be accomodative and build bridges across diverse interest. He noted that tolerance and mutual respect to each other is the key to a peaceful and rancour free administration.
Barr. Etetim Onuk, who spoke on behalf of the candidates thanked Dr. Achibong for his sustained support to the candidates, stating that he has contributed to their successes so far and solicited for his support in the December 2 polls.
The Ikot Annie Itam born lawyer said those nominated on the party’s platform have what it takes to move Itu to the next level and promised that together, whatever Itu lost in the past shall be restored. He pledged to operate an inclusive administration and attract the dividends of democracy as listed in his manifesto.
Delivering the vote of thanks, the Councillorship candidate for ward 8, Comrade Otobong Ekong thanked the host and assured him of their resolve to work with Barr. Onuk whom he described as ‘a wise man’ who has the capacity to lead them graciously. He disclosed that past experiences and elderly advice will ensure they do not go astray.
