The Uyo Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has vowed to stamp out corruption in Akwa Ibom State.
The anti graft agency disclosed this through its Uyo Zonal Head of Operations, Abdulkareem Chukkol, during a sensitization exercise organised to commemorate the 2017 International Anti-Corruption Day in Uyo on Monday.
In a chat with newsmen on the sidelines of the sensitisation road-walk exercise, Chukkol stated that EFCC is in Akwa Ibom to tackle and defeat all forms of financial and economic crimes.
He urged Akwa Ibom people to take advantage of the closeness of the EFCC to them by giving them useful information that will aid their campaign against corruption.
“The essence of this road-walk is to raise public awareness against corruption.
We all know what corruption is all about and the damages it has caused.
The effects of corruption are felt in all sectors. It is an impediment to the sustainable development goals.
We are here to be near to the people; the people should make good use of this opportunity. We need the overwhelming support of like-minded people in this mission of wiping out corruption in the state.”
He revealed that since resuming operations in August 2017, the Uyo Zonal Office has been inundated with many cases of corruption cases, and promised that the agency will ensure that culprits are promptly brought to book.
The road-walk which drew hordes of participants from all walks of life saw the agency tour major roads in Uyo.
According to him, the Uyo Zonal Office of the EFCC is located at No. 3 Akparawa Crescent, Edet Akpan Avenue (4Lanes), Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
